Upcoming I-66 Outside the Beltway Public Hearings
FABB members, some more opportunities to speak up and make our voices heard about the I-66 parallel trail are planned for next month.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in partnership with I-66 Express Mobility Partners (EMP), will host Design Public Hearings on the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project regarding plans for the 22.5 mile corridor from I-495 to University Boulevard in Gainesville.
All of the hearings will start at 6:00 p.m. and last until 8:30 p.m. with a formal presentation beginning at 7 p.m. followed by a public comment period.
FABB hopes that members and supporters will attend at least one of the hearings near the areas where they ride. The meeting schedule is as follows:

Merrifield Bike Lanes Meeting in October
The new bikeway will consist of wayfinding signage, sharrows, bike lanes and buffered bike lanes on Merrilee Drive from Prosperity Avenue to Strawberry Lane. The project is limited to striping changes, and the proposed striping plan will be available soon.
FABB encourages members to attend the hearing and support this cost-effective approach to adding bike facilities to the Merrifield area. If you can’t attend, you can still provide your comments on the project by using the comment form on the FCDOT project page, by writing the FCDOT Bicycle Program at 4050 Legato Road, Suite 400, Fairfax, VA 22033, or by calling 703-877-5600. Even a short message stating your support for and appreciation of FCDOT efforts to expand biking infrastructure in the county helps build and maintain momentum for better bicycling in Fairfax.

Public Meeting on Planned Bicycle/Pedestrian Facility in Tysons - UPDATE
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be hosting a public information meeting on a proposed bicycle/pedestrian facility in the vicinity of Route 123 and I-495 in Tysons on May 17, 2017, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The meeting will be at the Westgate Elementary School, 7500 Magarity Road, in Falls Church.
Unfortunately, this meeting is scheduled for the same time as FABB's monthly meeting. FABB members who don't normally attend the monthly meetings and other interested citizens in the Tysons and McLean area are encouraged to attend and provide public input to help VDOT select one of two project options.
The two designs under discussion were developed with public input from community meetings in 2015 and 2016. They are:

- Option 1: Shared-use trail along Route 123 from the Old Meadow Road intersection (east of I-495) to Westpark Drive near the ramp to the Express Lanes along I-495.
- Option 2: Shared-use trail along Old Meadow Road from Route 123 to a bridge crossing over I-495 to Tysons One Place.
In both options the shared-use trail will be constructed as a 10-foot-wide asphalt trail with bridge segments.
FABB will have a representative at the meeting but, again, we encourage everyone in the Tysons and McLean area who is interested in making bicycling better to please attend the meeting.
