Balls Hill Road and Old Dominion Drive Improvement Project
Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a public information meeting on the Balls Hill Road and Old Dominion Drive Improvement Project this Thursday, June 28, 2018. The planned project calls for realigning the intersection, improved traffic signals, and approximately 1.5 miles of new bike lanes and 2,750 feet of pedestrian walkways. The meeting will be at the Cooper Middle School, 977 Balls Hill Road, in McLean, and will start at 7:00 pm. If you are unable to attend, you have until July 13, 2018 to submit comments on the project website.
That's 1.5 miles of new bike lanes, people! Let's get out there and show our support.

Dranesville Repaving Meeting is Tonight, Feb. 22
From our earlier blog post: FABB is asking local bicyclists and other interested residents in the Dranesville District to attend the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) community meeting to discuss this year's paving and restriping efforts in the Dranesville District. Dranesville Repaving and Restriping Meeting on February 22
FABB is asking local bicyclists and other interested residents in the Dranesville District to attend the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) community meeting to discuss this year's paving and restriping efforts in the Dranesville District. The meeting will be on Thursday, February 22, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Franklin Sherman Elementary School Cafeteria, 6633 Brawner Street, in McLean.
Proposed striping changes in the Dranesville District include a bike lane and shared lane markings, also known as sharrows, on Beverly Road and Elm Street; striped parking lanes and sharrows on Fleetwood Road and Ingleside Avenue; and bike lanes, sharrows and striped parking lanes on Churchill Road. No existing on-street parking will be affected.
At the meeting, residents will have the opportunity to speak directly with road engineers and transportation planners about the paving program, proposed striping changes, and general traffic safety concerns. Information about paving and restriping in the Dranesville District will be on display in an open house format with a presentation starting at 7:15 p.m.

Innovation Station Community Meeting on June 29
Supervisor John Foust and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a community meeting regarding the Innovation Center Station North-Side Shared-Use Path Feasibility study on Thursday, June 29, 2017, in the cafeteria of Herndon Middle School, 901 Locust Street, Herndon, at 6:30 p.m. The proposed path will connect the future Innovation Station Metrorail Station kiss-and-ride on the north side of the Dulles Toll Road to Apgar Place and Farougi Court. The meeting will begin with time to review boards showing three different conceptual alternatives for the path alignment, followed by a formal presentation at 7 p.m. The meeting will conclude with a questions and answers session. FABB encourages local members to attend and share their knowledge about what makes for successful shared-use paths.

Meeting on Georgetown Pike Trail Project March 22

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is holding a community meeting concerning the Georgetown Pike Trail Phase III and Phase IV projects on March 22, 2017, at the Great Falls Library, 9830 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls, at 7-9 p.m., in the Large Meeting Room. There will be a presentation by County Staff at 7:30 p.m., followed by a brief question and answer session. Public comments will be accepted through April 14, 2017.

Project Background
In January of 2001, the Board of Supervisors entered into an agreement with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to construct a pedestrian trail along the north side of Georgetown Pike from River Bend Road westward to Seneca Road, a distance of approximately 4.2 miles. Phase I, located in the Village Center and Phase II, between Utterback Road and Falls Chase Court, have been completed.
Phase III will complete a 250’ long section between Falls Chase Court and Falls Bridge Lane. Click on the image below to expand.
This segment of the trail is the recipient of federal funds. Because of the federal funding, and because Georgetown Pike itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this segment of the trail must comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Dranesville Bike Improvements Meeting on March 23

Dranesville Supervisor John Foust is hosting a community meeting with the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) to discuss proposed bicycle improvements in the Dranesville District. The meeting will be on Thursday, March 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Churchill Road Elementary School Cafeteria, 7100 Churchill Road, McLean. Proposals include adding bike lanes to Lewinsville Road from Titania Lane to Fallstaff Road (eastern intersection) and Chain Bridge Road from Great Falls Street to Westmoreland Street.
As always, your support and feedback are needed to make sure these improvements happen.

FABB November Meeting Next Week
Please plan on joining FABB for our November meeting, which will be held at the McLean Governmental Center next Wednesday, November 16, from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.
We will be welcoming Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust for a discussion of bicycling and related transportation developments in the areas around McLean, Tysons, and Falls Church. Adam Lind, the Fairfax County Department of Transportation Bicycle Coordinator, also will be there to talk about current and future bicycling projects in the southern part of the district. And, of course, the meeting will provide an opportunity for riders and other to raise questions and share their ideas about bicycling in the southern part of Dranesville District.
We are hoping to have a great turnout, so please help spread the word about this upcoming meeting.

Southern Dranesville District Focus of Next FABB Monthly Meeting

Mark your calendars to join FABB in welcoming Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust for a discussion of bicycling and related transportation developments and needs at our November meeting. The meeting will be held at the McLean Governmental Center on Wednesday, November 16, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. This is the last in a series of meetings in 2016 in venues around the county.
Because of the extensiveness of Dranesville District, November's meeting will focus on the areas around McLean, Tysons, and Falls Church. Adam Lind, the Fairfax County Department of Transportation Bicycle Coordinator, will also be there to talk about current and future bicycling projects in the southern part of the district.

FABB plans to have a separate meeting in early 2017 to cover developments in and plans for the Great Falls and Herndon areas of Dranesville District. The McLean Governmental Center is located at 1437 Balls Hill Road in McLean, near the intersection of Route 123 and Lewinsville Road.
Please help spread the word about this upcoming meeting to talk about ways to make bicycling better in this area.

Dranesville District budget meeting tonight
Dranesville District is holding their FY 2016 budget meeting on Wednesday, March 4 at Great Falls Library, 9830 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls from 4-7 p.m. Cyclists are encouraged to attend this meeting to speak out for funding of the bicycle program, including funding for Bike Fairfax as recommended in the Bicycle Master Plan adopted by the Board of Supervisors last year. Supervisor Foust funds bike improvements
According to the article Foust Announces Improvements in the Great Falls Connection newspaper:Dranesville Supervisor John Foust announced that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has approved the funding of over twenty intersection, pedestrian, and bicycle projects in the Dranesville District. These improvements are in addition to several recently completed projects and seven projects previously funded and scheduled for completion this summer or fall.
In selecting these projects, Supervisor Foust listened to the concerns of numerous constituents, Dranesville homeowner associations and civic organizations, the McLean Pedestrian and Bicycle Task Force, as well as the Dranesville representative to the Fairfax County Trails and Sidewalks Committee.
Several projects include on-road bike facilities such as bike lanes or paved shoulders:In selecting these projects, Supervisor Foust listened to the concerns of numerous constituents, Dranesville homeowner associations and civic organizations, the McLean Pedestrian and Bicycle Task Force, as well as the Dranesville representative to the Fairfax County Trails and Sidewalks Committee.
- Old Dominion Drive / Spring Hill Road and Old Dominion Drive / Towlston Road: Extend shoulder and relocate or cover dangerous ditch
- Fleetwood Road: Add bike route signage from Elm Street to Chain Bridge Road
- Kurtz Road and Calder Road: Add bike lane between Dolley Madison Blvd. and Calder Road, and then on Calder Road between Kurtz Road and Brawner Street.
- River Bend Road and Beech Mill Road: Add "Share the Road" signs on River Bend Road from Old Dominion Drive to Beech Mill Road and on Beech Mill Road from River Bend Road to the County Line via Brockman Lane – a distance of 7.8 miles.
- Old Dominion Drive East of Old Gate Court (construction just completed): Extend east bound shoulder and eliminate dangerous ditch.
