Meeting on McWhorter Place Trail on Wed. May 25

McWhorter Place is located south of Route 236 in Annandale, just inside the Beltway. It is an important bicycle route with a very low speed limit. There is a missing connection between two segments of the street that is currently a goat trail used by bicyclists and pedestrians. Fairfax County plans to build a new trail connecting the two street segments. Bike lanes are planned on the eastern section of McWhorter Place and John Marr Dr, another reason this is an important connection. Cyclists in the this area are encouraged to support this project at the meeting on Wed.

Project Background
The McWhorter Place Trail is part of the six year bike and pedestrian program. The first segment is a 6 foot wide and approximately 65 foot long asphalt walkway connection between the eastern and western cul-de-sacs on McWhorter Place. The second segment is a 5 foot wide and approximately 60 foot long concrete sidewalk to close the existing missing sidewalk link along the western McWhorter Place cul-de-sac. Comments:
Thanks for the explanation of the context and impact of this project. It seems like a great example of a small project that can yield big results in terms of connecting bicyclists and pedestrians to nearby destinations and making it possible to take more daily trips on foot or by bike.
