Mt Vernon District bike projects meeting March 23

Fairfax County is holding another meeting on proposed bike projects. Five projects in the Mt. Vernon District are the subject of the meeting on Monday, March 23, 2015 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. All projects are part of the summer repaving schedule.

2015 could be a banner year for bike projects in Fairfax. So far the county has held meetings on proposed bike projects on Backlick Rd/Amherst Ave, Kingstowne Village Parkway,  and Burke Rd and Shipplet Blvd. Kudos to Fairfax County and VDOT for proposing these projects which will likely double the number of on-road bike facilities in the county. Mount Vernon District: Multiple streets and bicycle facilities. There are multiple proposals to improve the transportation environment for people who drive, bike, and walk in the Mount Vernon District. The meeting is being held at the Mount Vernon Government Center, 2511 Parkers Lane, Alexandria, VA 22306. The following list represents the proposals that will be discussed:
  • Fordson Road: Sharrows from Sherwood Hall Lane to Route 1
  • Quander Road: Lane diet and bike lanes from Route 1 to Quander Elementary School
  • Hinson Farm Road: Lane diet and bike lanes from Parkers Lane to Holland Road
  • Parkers Lane/Collingwood Rd: Lane diet and bike lanes from Sherwood Hall Lane to Candlewood Drive
  • Beacon Hill Road/Belle View Boulevard: Combination of bike lanes and sharrows from Route 1 to Fort Hunt Road
