Braddock Road Multimodal Study Meeting
FABB is encouraging local cyclists and other interested citizens to attend the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) community meeting on proposed pedestrian overpasses along Braddock Road next week. The meeting will be on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria of Lake Braddock Secondary School.
Fairfax County is working with Braddock District Supervisor John Cook and members of the community to develop and evaluate a number of improvements for the Braddock Road corridor between Guinea Road and I-495. The overpasses would provide an "elevated crossing alternative" that would not affect traffic flow at major intersections on Braddock Road.Residents who attend the meeting can learn about and comment on the proposed pedestrian crossings, the designs being considered, and possible locations for additional crossings.
In addition to the overpasses, potential improvements may include additional travel lanes, HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes, and other intersection, pedestrian, and bicycle improvements.

Faces of Fairfax: Delia Johnson

Meet Delia Johnson, a rider from Burke, who kindly spent a few minutes with FABB to talk about bicycling on Bike to Work Day 2018. Delia rides her bike regularly to get around the county. She commutes to her job at George Mason University and uses her bike for trips to the store and her local library. For her, the exercise is great but she also appreciates saving money that might otherwise be spent on gas and parking. In response to our question about what she most likes about riding, Delia told us that she likes the exercise and health benefits along with the feeling that she is doing her part for the environment and congestion by taking one car off the road. She would love to see a bike lane on Braddock Road to make is easier and safer to ride around Burke.
FABB has been supportive of the efforts of Braddock District Supervisor John Cook and members of the Burke community to develop pedestrian and bicycle improvements for the Braddock Road corridor between Guinea Road and I-495. As briefly discussed at a public meeting on proposed pedestrian bridges last month, the plan now includes a shared use path on both sides of Braddock Road. Not a bike lane, but a clear improvement in a heavily trafficked area.

Braddock Road Study Community Meeting, June 26
Burke area FABB members and supporters are encouraged to attend a community meeting on Fairfax County Department of Transportation’s Braddock Road Multimodal Study next Monday. The meeting will be held on June 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lake Braddock Secondary School, 9200 Burke Lake Road. The first hour will be an open house with FCDOT staff available for questions. At 7:30 p.m., there will be a presentation on the Braddock Road Study. This is great opportunity to provide your insights on ways to make the planned multimodal paths on both sides of Braddock Road as safe and beneficial as possible.
