Bike Counters Needed in Reston - Sign Up Online

Fairfax County is looking for a few volunteers to help count bicyclists on two roads in Reston that will be repaved this summer. If you can help between June 6 and 11, contact Nicole Wynands of the county bike program or sign up online for specific time slots (requires that you register as a volunteer with Fairfax County). From Fairfax County:
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation is currently looking for volunteers to help with a bike and pedestrian count at two locations in Reston (Colts Neck Rd at the elementary school and Twin Branches at the pool). These roads are getting repaved in a few weeks and will receive new bike lanes and crosswalks. We would like to gather before and after pedestrian and bicycle data to better determine the impact of the infrastructure improvements.

The counting dates are June 6-11, 6am to 9pm. We will break up the counting period into 3h shifts: 6-9am, 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm, 3pm-6pm, 6-9pm. On street parking is available at both counting locations if you prefer to count from the comfort of your car.

Please let me know if you are interested in participating, and which day(s) and shift(s) you would like to take on. Shifts will be assigned on a first come first serve basis.

We will send out training materials on how and what to count by the end of this week. We will also set up a volunteer sign up form for this opportunity in the Fairfax County volunteer system so that volunteers can be covered by insurance and log their hours.
