FABB Award of Appreciation goes to Christine Godward Green

Christine Green
at the 2012 Fairfax Bike Summit
At the Fairfax Bike Summit on Nov. 2 FABB will recognize Christine Godward Green of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership for her work in Fairfax County. Christine serves as the Partnership's regional policy manager for the Washington, DC metro area. She played a key role in getting funding for the first ever Fairfax County Safe Routes to School Coordinator position. The position is funded through a grant from the Virginia Safe Routes to School Program. Christine worked with FABB to advocate for the position and she coordinated with Fairfax County Public School staff to write the grant proposal.

Christine also played a key role in promoting biking and walking to the health community as a member, along with FABB, of the Partnership for a Healthier Fairfax, attending numerous meetings and helping to write policy positions that were considered for a comprehensive community health grant application. She worked with FABB to contribute to the Community Health Improvement Plan recently released by the Partnership. The Plan includes strong recommendations for improving biking and walking in Fairfax.

Christine also helped publicize Bike to School Day and International Walk to School Day in Fairfax and the region, events that have seen tremendous growth in the past two years. We are delighted to have an opportunity to honor her tireless work.

We will present Christine with a plaque during the summit. Also, a session will be devoted to ways of encouraging more kids to bike. You can register for the bike summit online.
