At BikeFest tomorrow evening FABB's Jeff Anderson will receive WABA's 2013 Pierre Summerville Education Award. Congratulations Jeff!

For the past several years Jeff, otherwise known as "the crazy bike dad," has worked tirelessly to promote biking and walking to school in Fairfax. His kids attend Wolf Trap Elementary School where Jeff leads Wolfie's Bike Train throughout the year. See the Media Coverage section of the FABB Safe Routes to School page for a long list of articles about Jeff's work.

Jeff led the effort to change the Fairfax Co Public Schools policy on biking to school to allow parents to make the final decision regarding whether their kids can bike to school. That policy change included guidance on providing bicycle safety education: "The school system will ensure that programs of walking, bicycling and bus safety education shall be established and maintained for students in the elementary schools." Jeff is now working to ensure the policy is implemented.

Jeff is also promoting Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 8. So far over 30 Fairfax County schools are holding events.
