Prevention is the key

Check out this excellent graphic from the Bikeyface blog post Serious About Safety. Helmets help but prevention is really the key to reducing bike crashes.

Hum. Anti helmet tone?
 
I don't think the tone is anti-helmet. Current bike safety efforts tend to over-emphasize the importance of wearing a helmet instead of doing more to educate cyclists about the rules of the road, safe riding techniques, hazard avoidance techniques, etc. I thin wearing a helmet is key, but so are the other aspects of bike safety.
 
Note to self, read comments before posting. I "think" wearing a helmet is important...
