Changes in Fairfax bike program

We just learned this week the Jeff Hermann of the Fairfax Co bike program is leaving. Jeff has done great work over the past several years on behalf of cyclists in the county. He works with the bicycle program manager, Charlie Strunk, to implement the bike program. He was the leader of the Tysons Bicycle Master Plan process and was leading the countywide planning effort.

Jeff has accepted a new position with the Fairfax DOT Site Analysis Section, which means he'll be reviewing new development applications to ensure they comply with county regulations. Jeff will be greatly missed. He was dedicated to the job and was an active cyclist who knew about cyclists' concerns firsthand. He also did an excellent job overseeing the bicycle master planning process.

The good news is that he will bring that understanding of bicycling issues to his new job, ensuring that bicycle facilities are included in new develop projects that he reviews, which include those in the Tysons area. Good luck to Jeff in his new job.

We've heard that his position will be announced soon.
