FABB's 5th Anniversary
The first FABB meeting was held on May 3, 2005 at bikes@vienna (Where we met monthly for several years. Thanks John). A small group of cyclists discussed the need for more bicycle advocacy in Fairfax, County and City. Our early goals were for the county to create a bike coordinator position, to develop a county bike map, and to develop on-road bike routes. We created a petition to urge the Board of Supervisors "to act immediately by building more bicycle-friendly communities and dedicating a full-time County staff person to planning and implementing bicycle projects." We then collected signatures during Bike to Work Day later that month. Those first names formed the basis of the FABB contacts list that now contains 850 email addresses. If you didn't receive the May-June 2010 FABB newsletter today, then you're not on the list. Send a message to chairman@fabb-bikes.org to receive the newsletter.
To celebrate our 5th anniversary everyone is invited to Auld Shebeen in Fairfax City starting at 5:30 p.m. Bike parking is available in a few scattered spots including the nearby library. There's also a railing behind Auld Shebeen that can be used for locking bikes.
